Transfer Information
Deadlines:
April 15 for scholarship consideration
Aug. 1 final deadline for fall admission
Please make an appointment with Joael Kelly to discuss how you can transfer to TCU. Be sure to bring a transcript from the colleges you have attended. 817.257.7490
The following information is from the TCU Transfer Admission web site:
If you are in good standing at an accredited college or university and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.60, it is probable that you may transfer to Texas Christian University.
If, when applying, you have fewer than 24 hours of transferable college credit, you must also submit a high school transcript and the results of your SAT or ACT as admission credentials. Courses will transfer to TCU, but some may not fit the degree plan you choose.
Credit Transferability and GPA
TCU will accept all or most academic credits you have earned with grades of "C" or better from other accredited institutions. To determine your qualification for admission, a GPA will be computed on all potentially transferable course work, including repeated courses, courses in which grades of "F," "D" and "I" (incomplete) were received, and course work attempted in another college's conditional or probationary program. Unconverted "I" grades must be computed as "F." Grades earned in PE activity classes will not be computed toward GPA, although credit will be granted if grades are "C" or better. Cumulative GPA will be used for admission only, not computed into your TCU graduation GPA.
Courses which do not transfer to TCU include the following:
- Courses below college level (e.g., remedial English, Math and Reading courses). Vocational-Technical courses; certain religion courses (e.g. non-survey).
- PE activity courses in excess of eight hours.
- Correspondence work (TCU Academic Deans may selectively permit exceptions).
- Course work with a grade below a "C" (GPA will count as admission credential).
A course need not be equivalent to a TCU course to be transferable. However, "Equivalency Guides" showing which TCU courses are comparable to courses offered at other institutions are available in the counseling offices of many Texas community colleges. TCU does not automatically extend credit earned by examination elsewhere (see "Credit by Exam" brochure). The G.E.D. is not a valid TCU admission credential if under 21 years of age.
Residency Requirement
A total of 58 semester hours in residence must be successfully completed to earn a TCU degree, regardless of number of credit hours transferred. Upon reaching 54 college hours, students must declare a major field of study. Only 66 hours from community college may be credited toward the TCU degree.
