Staff Assembly Minutes

November 7, 2000

The meeting was called to order at 3:37p.m. Minutes were read and approved as corrected.

Updates: Chairwoman Jean Andrus recognized new Staff Assembly members Monica Martinez-Ray.  She congratulated Milton Overton for being among 14 Fort Worth professionals recently honored at the YMCA 10th Annual Minority Achievers Banquet.  She also congratulated Bob Seal, University Librarian, on the successful launching of the Library’s Bistro Burnett.

Chancellor’s Report

Chancellor Ferrari reviewed the report of The Committee on the Future of TCU.  He announced that Bob Seal will be Chair of the Undergraduate Curriculum Outcomes Committee (revitalization of Curriculum). The Chancellor also announced that United Healthcare will be the provider for TCU.

Dr. Ferrari informed us that the Board of Trustees will be meeting later in the week and discussing such matters as the addition to the Rickel Center, Parking, Academic affairs, etc.  The meeting in March will look into budget and salary issues.

He also stated that new application for the Fall are up from last year, so all signs are positive on the “Health and Vitality” of TCU.

Guest Dee Dotson asked help and support to fill Amon Carter Stadium for the next (and all) football game.

 The speaker for the November meeting was Vice Chancellor Edd Bivin, who gave us an update on the Master Plan for TCU.

 Committee Reports

1)      RIB – The Committee will be meeting tomorrow Roger Fisher announced and he will give an update at the December meeting.

2)      Human Resources – John Weis reminded us of the insurance enrollment meetings that are scheduled.

3)      Community Services – Gail Truitt and Mary Lane told us of the need for Mentors among International Students and others.  They are still working on a specific project.

4)      Parking – Nancy Grieser brought up the subject of the need for spaces near buildings for Housekeeping to load and unload supplies, etc.

New Business

Sharon Hudson submitted a proposal for a matching program between TCU and employees whereby we are allowed to use 2 hours monthly – 1 free hour and 1 personal hour – for volunteer work (Meals on Wheels, etc.)  The proposal was referred to the Policy Review Committee of the Staff Assembly.
